The Shia in brief
SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – The talks about the Shia in the last years, especially after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, have been so widespread. The western information and its media spread everywhere in the world has focused on the Iranian Shia, describing them as ‘the fool of Allah’ one time and ‘terrorists’ another time. This included the Lebanese Shia too after they had threatened the American and western interests in Beirut. They were described as ‘excessive and extreme’. After no long, these descriptions were ascribed to all the Shia in the world. In fact, they included the Islamic movements everywhere in the world even if they are Sunni having nothing to do with the Shia.
It does not matter to us what the western information and enemies of Islam say or the false justifications and fabrications they follow, for ‘you may hope for the friendliness of every enemy, except the enemy of your religion’.
What does really concern us is that which some Muslims say about the Shia. You hear from them wonders and wonders! It is too odd that they do not have any evidence, clear proof, or irrefutable argument in their false accusations, but they only repeat what their ancestors used to say without any analysis or verification.
In addition to the actual definition of Shiism we have mentioned in our fourth book “The Shia are the People of the Sunna”, we see that we must show the Muslims, who seek the mere truth and do not fear a blame in the way of Allah, the sayings of Allah and His messenger (a.s.) about the Shia, and then, we shall discuss the sayings of some approving and disapproving scholars and thinkers.
The Shia in the Qur'an
Allah the Almighty says:
As for those who believe and do good, surely they are the best of men.[1]
Jalaluddeen as-Sayuti says in his commentary (tafsir) of the Qur'an called ad-Durr al-Manthur fit Tafsir al-Ma’thur, “Abu Hurayra narrated (that the Prophet (a.s.) said):
Do you wonder at the position of the angels to Allah? I swear by Him, in Whose hand my soul is, that the position of a faithful servant to Allah on the Day of Resurrection is greater than the position of an angel. If you want, you can read (this verse):
As for those who believe and do good, surely they are the best of men.
Aa’ishah narrated, “Once, I said, ‘O messenger of Allah, who is the best of people to Allah?’ He said:
O Aa’ishah, do you not read:
(As for) those who believe and do good, surely they are the best of men)?
Jabir ibn Abdullah narrated, “One day, we were with the Prophet (a.s.) when Ali came and then the Prophet said:
(I swear) by Him, in Whose hand my soul is, that this (Ali) and his Shia (followers) shall be the winners on the Day of Resurrection.
Then, this Verse was revealed:
(As for) those who believe and do good, surely they are the best of men.
[1] Qur'an, 98:7.
Whenever Ali came, the Prophet’s companions said, ‘The best of men has come.’”
Abu Sa’eed narrated (that the Prophet (a.s.) said):
Ali is the best of men.
Ibn Abbas narrated, “When this verse was revealed ((As for) those who believe and do good, surely they are the best of men), the messenger of Allah (a.s.) said to Ali:
Surely, you and your Shia (followers) shall be on the Day of Resurrection pleased and pleased with (by Allah).
Imam Ali (a.s.) said, “The messenger of Allah (a.s.) said to me:
Have you not heard this saying of Allah:
(As for) those who believe and do good, surely they are the best of men?
It is you and your Shia, and your appointment and my appointment shall be at the Pond (in the Paradise). When nations shall come for reckoning, you shall be called ‘ghurran muhajjaleen; honorables and shiny marked.
The Sunni scholars, who have mentioned this interpretation when interpreting this verse, are too many. Besides Jalaluddeen as-Sayuti, we can mention at-Tabari in his Tafsir, al-Hakim al-Hasakani in his Shawahid at-Tanzeel, ash-Shawkani in Fat~h al-Qadeer, al-Aaloosi in Roohul Ma’ani, and al-Manawi in Kunooz al-Haqa’iq.
We can also mention al-Khawarizmi in his al-Manaqib, ibn as-Sabbagh al-Maliki in al-Fusool al-Muhimmah, ibn Asakir in Tareekh Damashq, ash-Shabalanji in Noor al-Absar, ibnul Jawzi in Tathkiratul Khawass, al-Qandoozi al-Hanafi in Yanabee’ al-Mawaddah, al-Haythami in Majma’ az-Zawa’id, al-Mutaqqi al-Hindi in Kanzol Ummal, and ibn Hajar in al-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqah.
On this firm basis, researchers cannot be satisfied with the opinions, which suppose that Shiism did not appear except after the martyrdom of Imam Husayn (a.s.).
The Shia in the Prophetic Sunna
The messenger of Allah (a.s.) many times talked about the Shia, and each time he confirmed that the followers of Ali (a.s.) would be the winners, because they supported the truth and kept away from and let down the untruth. He also confirmed that the followers of Ali (a.s.) were the followers of the Prophet (a.s.) himself.
Here, we mention the following tradition that has been mentioned by Ibn Hajar in as-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqah and other Sunni scholars;
The messenger of Allah (a.s.) said to Ali:
Are you not pleased that you shall be with me in the Paradise, and al-Hasan, al-Husayn, and our progeny behind our backs, our wives behind our progeny, and our Shia (followers) to our left and right sides?[1]
Many times, the Prophet (a.s.) said about Ali and his followers:
By Him, in Whose hand my soul is, this (Ali) and his Shia are certainly the winners on the Day of Resurrection.[2]
It is very natural that the Prophet (a.s.) praised the followers of the truth and distinguished them with a sign by which they would be known throughout the ages so that Muslims would know the suppressed truth and be guided to it through the nearest way.
Because of the Prophet’s praising and continuous instructions, a group from the best of his companions became adherents to Imam Ali (a.s.) and were famous of their love and support to him
[1] As-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqa by ibn Hajar, p. 96, 159.
[2] Al-Manaqib by al-Khawarizmi the Hanafite, p. 62.
after the death of the Prophet (a.s.). Among these great companions there were Salamn al-Farisi, Abu Tharr al-Ghifari, Ammar ibn Yasir, Huthayfah ibn al-Yaman, and al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad. Thus, the word “shia” became a surname for these men. Dr. Mustafa Kamil ash-Shaybi mentions this fact in his book ‘the Relation between Sufism and Shiism’, and the same is mentioned by Abu Hatim in his book az-Zeenah when saying, “The least name of a creed that appeared in Islam was the “Shia”, and this was a surname of four companions who are Abu Tharr al-Ghifari, Ammar ibn Yasir, Salman al-Farisi, and al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad.”
This shows clearly that the orientalists and some of Muslim researchers, who had quoted from those orientalists, were untruthful when they said that Shiism was a political phenomenon that came out as a result of the circumstances after the martyrdom of Imam Husayn (a.s.). It also clearly shows the falseness of those who tried to attach Shiism to the Persians. In fact, these people just revealed their own ignorance and fanaticism.
How would these biased people justify the existence of Shiite states in the Arab land in north Africa like Morocco and Tunisia, and the east like Egypt and Halab (in Syria) centuries before the appearance of Shiism in Persia? The state of the Idrisids (Adarisah) in Morocco was in the second century of hegira and the state of the Fatimids was in Tunisia at the end of the third century of hegira. The Fatimids also ruled in Egypt in the middle of the third century of hegira, and the Shiite state of the Hamadanids ruled in Halab (Syria) and Iraq in the fourth century, whereas Iran turned to be Shia in the tenth century of hegira at the hand of the Shah Ismael.
Those, who try in a way or another to attach Shiism to the Persians, will never be able to prove that whatever they try to do.
As I have mentioned before in my book ‘Then I was guided’, most of the Sunni scholars and imams were Persians and were not Shia! In fact, they were very puritan and fanatic against the Shia and Shiism. Some historians mention that the people of Persia used to
abuse Imam Ali (a.s.) on their minbars even after Umar ibn Abdul Aziz, the Umayyad caliph, had prohibited it (the abusing of Imam Ali).[1]
If we know that the first and most famous interpreter az-Zamakhshari was Persian, the great traditionists al-Bukhari and Muslim were Persian, Abu Haneefah the Greatest Imam, as called by the Sunni, was Persian, the master and most famous of grammarians Seebwayh was Persian, the master of theologians Wasil ibn Ata’ was Persian, the master of linguists al-FayroozAbadi the author of al-Qamus al-Muhit (comprehensive dictionary) was Persian, Imam al-Ghazali, ar-Razi, Avicenna, and Ibn Rushd all were Persian… and all of the mentioned above men were from the scholars and heads of the Sunni, then would those fabricators and agitators turn to reason and let alone true scholars and researchers conclude and arrive at the truth derived from the true history through their reasons and not emotions and fanaticism?http://www.maaref-foundation.com

SSP Terrorist Plan to Kill Shia Politician 'Abdul Khaliq Hazara' Foiled, 6 Killed
SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) –A car bomb targeting a Pakistani Shia politician has killed six and injured 37 others in the southwestern province of Balochistan, police says.
The attack, which took place in Quetta on Tuesday, aimed at Abdul Khaliq Hazara, the leader of Pakistan's Hazara Democratic Party, who escaped unharmed, said police officer Fiyaz Sumbal, the Associated Press reported.
The victims were paramilitary soldiers, and passers-by.
The attacker had attempted to drive his vehicle into Hazara Town in Baluchistan province’s capital Quetta, where a recent surge in sectarian unrest has killed scores of Shias, city police chief Zubair Mahmood said.
“He detonated the vehicle when the soldiers at a paramilitary check post near the Shia neighbourhood stopped it,” the police officer said.
Senior provincial government official Akbar Durrani confirmed the attack and the casualties.
“We have collected details from different hospitals and the death toll is six,” he said, adding that 37 others, including two soldiers, were wounded.
“The bomber was heading to the Shia Hazara community’s area. It was a huge blast heard several kilometres away,” he said, adding that several shops were damaged in the bombing.
Pakistan will hold elections on May 11 for 272 general seats of the National Assembly and a total of 577 seats in the four provincial assemblies.
Earlier on Tuesday, the police forces diffused a bomb inside a car which managed to approach the house of former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.
The car was parked about 150 meters (500 feet) away from the main gate of Musharraf's house on the outskirts of the Pakistani capital Islam Abad, said Islam Abad police chief Bani Amin.
Earlier in the day, Musharraf was escorted to the court in the garrison city of Rawalpindi on amid heavy security measures.
Police arrested Musharraf on Friday and took him into custody at a guest house in police headquarters in the city.
Pakistan’s former army chief-turned-president faces a string of charges including involvement in the 2007 assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and the killing of a Baluch leader.
Human Rights Watch has called on the Pakistani government to hold Musharraf accountable for widespread and serious human rights abuses committed when he was president.
Musharraf returned to Pakistan in March after nearly four years of self-exile in London and Dubai, despite threats by pro-Taliban militants to kill him upon his arrival.
Also on Tuesday, 12 other people were also injured in other spots in Quetta after four small bombs blew up in different commercial areas of the city.
Pakistani media say over 35,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001, when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US in the so-called war on terror.
Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan.
However, Balochistan has also been plagued by decades of a separatist struggle for an ethnic homeland in the impoverished but mineral-rich province, which supplies much of Pakistan’s natural gas.
Over the past few months, militants have destroyed dozens of gas pipelines and power towers in various parts of Balochistan.

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) –Sheikh Afif Nablesi, the renowned religious scholar of Lebanon cut any tie between the divine religion of Islam and the excommunicator (Takfiri) fatwas (religious decree) issued by some Wahhabi extremist scholars.

He underscored the very measures are detached from Islamic teachings and instructions “Such recurrent moves are by far the worst way of exploiting the religion,” said Sheikh Nablesi nudging Muslims stand against such Anti-Islamic waves.
The religious cleric blamed most of Muslims' woes on such baneful orders and said those of scholars who lean on Al-Qaida and fallen under the spell of similar extremist groups are actually the cause of many blood has been shed in Islamic countries of Iraq, Syrian and Pakistan. -www.shafaqna.com/English

SHAFAQNA Exclusive: Shias are being killed based on a pack of lies
SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – In an exclusive interview with Shafaqna, Dr Hossain Royvaran a Middle East expert pointed to the events of past two years particularly the Islamic awakening in the region and said that the uprisings against some regimes led to re-arrangement of the political scene. The West started a kind of offensive against these uprisings by magnifying the internal problems as well as differences between Shia and Sunni in the region. He cautioned against political problems amongst the supporters of uprising in countries like Tunis, Libya and Egypt and said these are all indication of plots to reinforce the differences.
Dr Royvaran explained that the problems between Shia and Sunni as well as Shia killings have not appeared naturally but they came through planning. The West and some regional elements in the region are having roles in these plans. Some of the media also are taking part in the scheme and propagating the planners’ thoughts. Whatever happening in the region are the natural consequences of these plans. The main planner is the West but some ignorant people in the region are carrying out those plans based on false religious teachings. He pointed to the Shia Killings in Pakistan and Iraq in recent years and formation of Salafi groups in the region.
This Middle East expert continued by explaining the fact that existence of Salafi groups such as Sepah-e-Sahabeh and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi are all the result of Saudi’s investment on Salafi and Wahhabis through formation of thousands religious schools with anti-Shia teachings. Dr Royvaran pointed to the fact that despite all the killings, Shias have not reciprocated and this patience made sure some Sunnis to realise the truth behind these western supported plots. In his final remarks, this expert said that Shia killings are being carried based on pack of lies. These killings are against Islamic teachings and no Muslim will support these murders

SHAFAQNA Exclusive: The duty of media and speakers is to explain the truth and cruelties towards Hazrat Zahra (AS) and not to curse says Dr Jabbari
SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – In an exclusive interview with Shafaqna, Hojatul-Islam Dr Mohammad Reza Jabbari said in order to find out about Hazrat Fatima’s (AS) behaviours in life it is enough to study the life of Prophet (PBUH) and all the narrations on this regard because she was educated by the Messenger of Allah. He added that Hazrat Zahra (AS) is the only lady amongst infallibles in Islamic era based on many evidences such as Ayah Tathir as well as various Shia / Sunni Narrations which consider that she is included in that Ayah.
Dr Jabbari pointed to other evidences regarding Hazrat Zahra (AS) such as the famous sentence by the Prophet (PBUH) which has been reported by Shia / Sunni sources. Prophet (PBUH) said Fatima is part of me if anyone bothers her, bothers me and if anyone bothers me is like bothering Allah. This is a clear evidence of the lofty position of Hazrat Fatima (AS) amongst other infallibles. He added that people can take example of Lady Fatima’s way of life as all her entire life was based on pure Islamic way.
Hojatul-Islam Jabbari believes that during the commemoration of the martyrdom of Hazrat Fatima (AS) the truth about her life and all her sufferings must be explained and other matters which disturb the unity between Shia / Sunni Muslims must be avoided. In his final remarks Dr Jabbari reminded that it will be very useful if the historical events are explained justly especially when fair minded anti-Shia people can hear them and try to research further to find the full truth. He added that if we look at the history, many people found the truth through just behaviours of Shia scholars. Therefore the duty of the media and scholars is only to explain the truth about the life and the sufferings of Hazrat Zahra (AS).
