Bahraini protesters block roads, set fire to tires

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)Bahraini protesters have blocked roads by setting fire to tires in towns, following days of anti-regime protests across the country. Earlier on Friday, at least 45 Bahraini demonstrators were injured near the capital, Manama, after Saudi-backed regime forces used tear gas and birdshot to break up three separate anti-government protests.

Bahraini forces also arrested 40 people, including the daughter of prominent opposition activist Abdulhadi al-Khawaja.

Bahraini activists say Zainab al-Khawaja was arrested as she tried to hold a protest sit-in at al-Badei street close to the capital.

In another incident on Thursday, Bahraini security forces attacked anti-government demonstrators staging protest rallies in several towns and villages in the Persian Gulf sheikdom.

Anti-regime protests in Bahrain continue, despite the heavy-handed crackdown by the Western-backed monarchy.

Scores of people have been killed and many others injured or arrested in the campaign of suppression.

Since mid-February 2011, thousands of anti-government protesters have been staging regular demonstrations in the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.

The anti-regime demonstrators hold King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa responsible for the deaths of the protesters during the popular uprising.
