SHAFAQNA (Shia News Association) - Nabeel Rajab told The Associated Press shortly after his release Wednesday that he will "keep defending the people's rights."

Rajab was detained June 6 on charges linked to comments he made on social media. It is the second time in two months he has been arrested and released.

Bahrain has experienced near daily protests for 16 months following an uprising by the kingdom's Shiite majority seeking greater political rights from the Western-backed Sunni monarchy. At least 50 people have died in the unrest since February 2011.
