The Gazette: Quebec can expect more student protests this summer

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) — Quebec hasn’t heard or seen the last of student demonstrations against tuition fee increases for the summer, a major student association says.

The Fédération étudiante universitaire du Québec (FEUQ), which held a convention in the Laurentiens over the weekend, said it will “continue its work of informing the public” at outdoor festivals this summer, but said it will respect the festive atmosphere of the events.

FEUQ president Martine Desjardins, also said the association, which counts 125,000 members, plans to campaign to defeat Premier Jean Charest and his Liberal government in the next provincial election, expected sometime before the end of 2013.

“It’s clear Premier Charest wants to profit from the crisis with the students to get himself reelected,” Desjardins said in a statement. “If he thinks the summer will calm students’ anger, he’s making a big mistake.”—www.shafaqna.com
