SHAFAQNA (Shia News Association) - UPDATE - The attack was carried out during the early hours of Thursday. Ten people were injured in the incident, state media said.

Sporadic attacks inside Syria continue despite a ceasefire that took effect on April 12 and was part of a six-point peace plan brokered by the UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan.

On May 19, the official Syrian news agency SANA said nine people were killed and about 100 others injured in a car bombing carried out outside security headquarters in the eastern city of Deir al-Zour.

Damascus was also the target of a terrorist assault on May 10, when the state TV said 55 people were killed and about 400 others injured in two bomb attacks on a main freeway in the south of the capital.

The latest attack in Damascus comes two days after UN Under Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Herve Ladsous said on June 12 the Syrian crisis could now be characterized as a civil war.

However, according to a June 13 report by SANA, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that any talk about “civil war” in Syria “contradicts the nature of the Syrian people.”

Syria is experiencing a war against the “armed groups which chose terrorism as their way to achieve their objectives and conspire against the present and future of the Syrian people,” the statement added.

DAMASCUS - A huge explosion targeting a branch of State Security behind Lady Zeinab (A.S.) shrine is now being investigated. The explosion appears to be from two bombed cars near the State Security branch and news indicate that other bombed cars are also near the area.

Smoke is currently covering the sky and terrorist groups are taking responsibility for the explosions on their websites.
