P5+1 refusing to adhere to Baghdad agreements: Iran

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) — Iran says the world powers of the P5+1 group - the US, Britain France, Russia, China, plus Germany - have failed to adhere to the agreements made by both sides in the latest round of talks in Baghdad.

Deputy Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Baqeri said on Sunday that the P5+1’s lack of readiness to implement the previous agreements has slowed down the progress of the talks.

He made the comments in a letter to EU's Deputy Secretary General for the External Action Service Helga Schmid.

“In his bilateral meeting with H.E. Lady [Catherine] Ashton on the sideline of Baghdad talks, H.E. Dr. [Saeed] Jalili touched upon this point and mentioned that your lack of preparation has caused the trend of the talks to be slowed down and even lead to standstill,” he said.

The Iranian official also referred to Iran’s request for holding expert-level meetings to determine the agenda of the upcoming Moscow talks.

“Despite all the follow-ups and number of letters sent by the Islamic Republic of Iran, you have not been successful to materialize the readiness [for expert-level meetings]. It is a big question to the public opinions why you are avoiding to hold experts meeting and deputies which was already agreed upon in Baghdad?” he asked.

“Will the next round of talks be successful with or without having a clear provisional agenda and only having talks for the sake of talks? If the agreements made in each round of talks did not follow up properly by the deputies and experts, what kind of guarantee would it be for the success of the next round of talks?” Baqeri noted.

Declaring Iran's readiness to plan successful talks based on a clear logic and by providing specific proposals, Baqeri hoped that the P5+1 will be prepared to hold the talks as soon as possible.

During their latest talks in Baghdad, Iran and the P5+1 agreed to hold expert-level meetings before the third round of negotiations in Moscow on June 18-19, in order to hammer out the agenda of those talks. The P5+1 representative, however, have so far ignored Iran's request for taking part in expert meetings which caused Tehran to warn that P5+1’s foot-dragging will undermine the entire negotiations process.  — www.shafaqna.com
