SHAFAQNA (Shia News Association)— The death toll from Russia’s flooding has risen to at least 103 in southern Krasnodar region, forcing people to take refuge in trees and on roofs, officials say.

Regional police spokesman Igor Zhelyabin said on Saturday that 88 bodies were found in the region's Krymsk district.

Nine other people died in the Black Sea resort town of Gelendzhik and two in the port of Novorossiisk over the past two days, he added. The death toll continues to rise.

Heavy rains dropped on a Black Sea region caused the floods. Most of the dead were from the cities of Krymsk, Gelendzhik and Novorossiik.

Authorities were now working to identify the bodies, Zhelyabin said.

The incident also affected nearly 13,000 in Krasnodar's worst natural disaster in decades.

Novorossiisk halted crude oil shipments because of continuing storms in the area. Officials said the port was in danger from further landslides.

Novorossiisk port spokesman Mikhail Sidorov said a team has worked through the night to bring the situation under control.— www.shafaqna.com/english/
