Late Saudi Crown Prince Nayef masterminded invasion of Bahrain: Analyst

SHAFAQNA (Shia News Association) -  Late Saudi Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz masterminded the deployment of troops to “invade” Bahrain in 2011, a political analyst tells Press TV. “He (Nayef) was one of the masterminds of sending the Saudi troops to invade, occupy… Bahrain,” said Zayd al-Isa, Middle East expert from London, in an interview with Press TV on Saturday. On June 16, Saudi Arabia’s state TV said the 79-year-old Nayef, who was recently receiving medical treatment, has died “outside the kingdom.”

In mid-March 2011, Saudi Arabia, along with the United Arab Emirates, deployed troops in Bahrain to help the Manama regime crush anti-government demonstrations.

Saudi troops backed Bahraini army to kill till now more than 93 martyrs , and destroyed more than 50 Mosques and Matams (Shia religious gathering place).Khalifa Bin Salman 43years prime minister had strong relation with Nayef and same plan to continue the apartheid against Shia the majority of Bahrain population.

Nayef was announced the new heir to the Saudi throne after the death of his full brother, former Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, at a New York hospital on October 22, 2011. “He (Nayef) also was instrumental in playing a role in destabilizing, derailing and ultimately dismantling the political process in Iraq,” Isa said.

“He basically will leave a power vacuum or a power void which is very hard to fill.” Nayef’s younger brother, Prince Salman, who is the minister of defense, is expected to be next in line for the position of crown prince, but no one has officially been announced to replace the late 79-year-old.

However, Talal bin Abdul Aziz says he is the one who deserves the position, since he is the elder brother.

“Basically the main idea is that there is a fierce, intense contest between various princes within the royal family… They are still holding onto power and they are actually getting more desperate as they are getting older,” Isa stated.

The political analyst added that the “situation now is highly volatile and is highly precarious.”

He said the death of Nayef “comes as a shock because it comes… even before the so-called royal family had a chance to sweep all their differences under the carpet.”

“It is very important to point out that the loss of Nayef at such a highly critical moment is extremely perilous to the regime because Nayef played a major if not a pivotal role in running the security show both internally and externally.”
