SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) — The euphoria at the police academy on the outskirts of Cairo was short-lived. Moments after martyrs' relatives celebrated the life sentence handed to Egypt's ex-President Hosni Mubarak, the joy gave way to anger and disappointment. Mubarak's 2 sons and 6 senior officers were found not guilty. The possibility of appeals and reduced sentences made even Mubarak's verdict suspect.

Grieving mothers had held their sons' pictures in the burning heat for hours before the trial commenced. After a months of waiting culminating in shattered hopes, angry protesters left the police academy, where the final day of the year-long trial took place and headed to Tahrir Square. Hundreds of thousands demonstrators took to the streets once more to express their anger over political, and now, judicial corruption and what they see as the return of the same regime they rose against. — www.shafaqna.com
